Welcome at the Mecklenburg Lakes
Anyone who wants to leave the hustle and bustle of the overcrowded cities, the oppressive shadows of housing block canyons or the burdens of everday life behind, will experience an unforgettable holiday at the Mecklenburg Lakes. Here you can open your soul to the elements, feel at one with Mother Nature and enjoy her friuts with each of your senses. The Müritz National Park presents an attractive cross-section of its terminal moraine and outwash fan glacial geological formations in an area of 322 km². A tight network of information points in and around the national park gives the visitor up to date information on the vast theatre of nature and the sights in the park.
The Mecklenburg Lakes can be best experienced as a paradise for the active holidaymaker far from the trails of the arterial roads. The riches of the Mecklenburg Lakes can be discovered by the cyclist or the rambler – the sleepy village church or the observation tower, which shows only its red-brick cap above the woods on the Banks of the Tollensesee; The house near Feldberg, where Hans Fallada wrote his novel “What Now, Little Man?”; the Heinrich-Schliemann-Museum in Ankershagen, in which the life and works of the great Troja discoverer are honoured; The slavic villages near Neubrandenburg or Neustrelitz, where children and adults are theatrically transported into the past age of the land.
Not only the Müritz, the largest domestic lake in Germany (112 km²), but also the Plauer See (39 km²), the Strelitzer Small Lake Plateau, the Feldberger Lake Landscape, the Tollensesee, Kölpinsee, Fleesensee and the Goldberg-Sternberg Lake Landscape all belong, among others, to the Mecklenburg Lakes. The many and varied lakes, from the largest to the tiniest, give rise to the claim that the Mecklenburg Lakes are the true »Land Of A Thousand Lakes«.
Anyone who hasn’t yet mastered the arts of riding, golf, surfing, canoeing or sailing can start straight away!
