Venerable cities and cosy villages lie snuggled up in the wide open Mecklenburger landscape. City and environment are closely interlinked as is shown in the historic name of “Ackerbürgerstadt” for Röbel/Müritz, Wesenberg or Penzlin. These towns are referred to as town set-ups for citizens who work on the field. Parkways with cobblestone pathways lead to villages where charming farmhouses are integrated into the village set-up.

You are invited to go for a stroll through marketplaces and historic centres of towns with streets full of corners and framed by renovated timbered houses and proud town halls or spacious harbour facilities like in Plau am See, Waren (Müritz), Röbel/Müritz, Neustrelitz or Fürstenberg/Havel. Cosy restaurants offer typical Mecklenburger specialities, while dockland pubs add to the maritime atmosphere. Plenty of harbour see and angling festivities and the Müritz Sail will guarantee fun and entertainment.

An impressive experience can be obtained by visiting the restored weir system of the Vier-Tore-Stadt Neubrandenburg with the cute “Wiekhouses”. The Marienkirche has been changed into a concert church. Historic Güstrow combines an architectural ensemble which reaches from the first ranges of gothic style to classicism. Recommended places to visit are also Windmühlenstadt Woldegk because of its many windmills, the Schlossinsel in Mirow and the seaside promenade in Krakow am See.

Nestled up in the green hills rising up between glittering water areas are well-fortified fieldstone churches, churches which have been built with bricks and round shaped churches like in Sternberg, Goldberg and Friedland. In Ludorf you can find a very rare octagon shaped church.

The monuments of historic monasteries like in Malchow, Himmelpfort or Dobbertin give an impression of strength and power in early times.
